Three Cheers for the Dennis/Fischer Wedding!

She's always been one of those girls I looked up to. When my cousins lived at my grandmother's house, we saw each other every day after school. And Susie was beyond cool in my eyes. She braided my hair, knew how to cheerlead, and she talked to boys (being that she was a few years older than me, this was very impressive).

And now, I couldn't think of a day that I have thought Susie was any cooler than the day she married Kellen. She found the most perfect guy I could have imagined for her. It's actually hard to remember when Kellen arrived in our family, because he and his daughters fit in oh-so-well. Our family has grown to love them as one of our own, and are delighted that it's finally set in stone! (Well, legal documents will do.)

Now, Patrick and I were actually there to record the wedding for their wedding video. I just lucked out and got to shoot a few shots. And big thanks Emery & Company Photos, who did their actual wedding photos and did a fantastic job and let us work as we needed to and understanding what we were doing.

Susie and Kellen's Rehearsal + Some Goats

This past weekend was my cousin, Susie's, wedding. Patrick and I were actually the videographers for the wedding. It was quite a different change of pace, but very fun nonetheless. Plus, I did get to snap some shots here and there. I wanted to post the rehearsal, but I'll post the wedding as well, later this week. Just want to make sure the newly weds get to have a glimpse first.

So the rehearsal was at my Uncle Chuck and Aunt Cheryl's home. It is just so lovely there. And my favorite part: they have goats! Real cute ones. And for those of you who are unaware, I actually had my wedding on a farm. It felt so right to see these creatures at a wedding rehearsal. So, this post absolutely ends itself with some goats.

I just had to put up a couple of Susie and Kellen. They were so geeked, even at the rehearsal. They have a zeal for life that is contagious; I just love being around them!

Oh, and Susie finds everything hilarious. One of my favorite things about her.
My Aunt and Uncle, whom I could not love more. I mean, just look at them. Just dancing it out on a nice summer's eve.

A few weeks back, I got to venture up to Rockford with my dear friend Shannon Phillips (ofImago Vita Photography) for Anna and Daniel's lovely woodland wedding, tucked away in a majestic, yet quaint park. How I absolutely adore Michigan.

Shannon lives in Oklahoma and came up to photograph this wedding and asked me to shoot with her; which, just so happened to be the most amazing experience for me. She has been a great mentor in the photography business, so to do this was a dream.

Plus, the bonus, I know the bride! Anna's family have always been part of the church I grew up in. They were my favorite birthday part home to go to (her mother is an AMAZING homemaker--best cakes ever!). And here's the funny part: Anna was one of the photographers for MY wedding! Needless to say, it was a huge honor to be a part of this day.

Imago Vita Photography was kind enough to let me not only have the images I took for the day, but to post them, as well! (Not all photographers do that for their second-shooters.)

I know you're not big on birthdays, Tere, but I hardly care. (In the most loving way, of course.) And look how beautiful you are--I at least needed a reason to post some photos.

Birthdays, for me, are such a day of honoring. I've heard a lot of people say the whole, "If you're going to celebrate someone, you should do it on random days. You should appreciate them all the time." Which, while I'm a huge fan of random acts of kindness, but some of us just aren't that amazing in remembering to do so. So, I salute whoever began the celebration of birthdays, because I do, in fact, need that little reminder.

And Teres, you're totally somebody who I wish I remembered to give props a little more often.

The sincerity of your heart inspires me daily, and I could not admire you more for the decisions you have made this past year. You have obviously made such an impact on my life, but especially in the last year, you and Eric have show more love and compassion to our family than most people experience in a lifetime. I could not imagine a better neighbor-friend-cousin-co-parent to do life with.

Plus, look, you're such a winner!

And props to Aunt Nance for birthing my bff.
I know you probably won't eat cake and ice cream today, or even do anything big. But at the very least, I hope you know how birthday-worthy are in my book! Love you, my friend!

Day at the Beach

Every week, we do family date night with my mother-in-law, my sister-in-law, Carly, my brother-in-law, Luke, and their baby, Ruby. It's a grand event. It's mostly just food, talking, and great television. But, in the summer, when the television is not so great, and the weather is glorious, we let ourselves switch it up every now and then.

This week we switched it up by going to the Secret Beach. Now, I don't believe this is the beach's technical name, it is just what we have come to call if over the years. It's a real cute place, tucked away, and there's maybe 30 or 40 people there on a busy day--definitely our style.

So, we packed it up, and headed out. And I decided we need to capture some of these moments; such as Ruby, ultra-enthused to be in her carrier.

My fantastic mother-in-law. A girl couldn't ask for one better. I am so blessed!
Ruby loves her Granny (you can tell because she has her tongue out, she does that when she's happy).

Here we are, 6 months later, and little Charlotte is as beautiful as ever!

We've chatted about Charlotte's family before when I did her newborn session, but I have to say it again, she has amazing parents! It's so fun to see your friends become parents.

So we ventured out to a field on an early Sunday morning. The sun was bright, but Charlotte was a trooper! And luckily, her momma had a few trips up her sleeve to keep her smiling!

This is one of her momma's sweet tricks--this Ah-Mazing vintage mirror. Charley seemed to like it, too. (She has good taste already!)
Joe and Amy weren't thrilled about being in the photos, but I snuck this one in while Amy was giving Charley a pep-talk. Motherhood looks good on you Am-dawg!

I have been following the amazing photographer, Shannon Phillips of Imago Vita, consistently for 3 years now. She has inspired me to better myself as a photographer with every post. Last year, I actually got to spend some time getting to know Shannon when we moved to Tulsa, where her and her family live. They were some of favorite friendships we gained from that experience; and we are so grateful that we have been able to stay in touch, since.

Well, sure enough, Shannon had a shoot in Grand Rapids a couple weeks ago, and she actually asked me to second shoot for her! I was beyond thrilled! And bonus, the bride was a friend of mine (who had also lived in Tulsa the same time we did)!

Just because :: Puppies!

Who doesn't love a puppy?! I mean, seriously, even cat-people have to admit that puppies are the cutest. So by all means, I will make time for a puppy. It's a must.

Murphy's pup Maybe just had some of her own. And man, they topped the charts in the cute department. They were so cuddly and love-able. And if the oogling wasn't at its max yet, the cutest boys, Mason and Tyler, had to come over and play with them. Ugh, it was just too adorable.

All in all, a great time that left me wanting another puppy. But, until then, I get to look at these cute pups. And yes, this may look like an 8 year old girl's calendar, but I hardly care... they're puppies!!!

1st Birthday :: Gavin

Last year this time I was on constant phone watch. I kept it by my bed, in my pocket, on my desk, volume full-blast, constantly charged. I was waiting for a very special call. Patrick still makes fun of the way I would jump out of bed if I heard a ding or a ring. It was 24-hour awareness.

Why all the over-attachment to my telephone? Because we were thousands of miles away from one of my very best friends, Brook, was 9 months pregnant for her first baby. This little bean, as we lovingly called him for those precious months in her belly, had a piece of my heart from the very beginning. And words can't even described how happy I was when I got that call that he was here! Even though we couldn't be there, it was still such an important day for us.

Brook and Aaron, it has been one of the greatest joys to watch Gavin grow this last year--to see him figure out crawling, eating, walking, sharing, singing, dancing--words can't describe how grateful we are to be a part of his life. We are so excited for G-baby's 1st birthday! So, I hope you enjoy!

I met up with Kristin and Mike last week to do their engagement session. They were just engaged at the beginning of June, and their wedding will be this September! They are planning like crazy!

It was a really great time to spend with them. We met at the lovely Riverside Park, which has so many wonderful spots. And, they even brought their 4 dogs and 2 snakes for me to meet. Luckily, Kristin's daughter was there to help keep the animals tame. We did a few shots with the whole fam, but I wanted to showcase the lovely moments we had with just Kristin and Mike. They needed no direction to show affection; they are in love, love, love!

Thank you Kristin and Mike for letting me capture these moments. I can't wait for your wedding in September!

Senior :: Lesley

This may have been the quickest process of booking, shooting, editing, and ordering I've ever completed. Lesley was in a pinch for senior pictures, and I was more than happy to help. I had met Lesley a couple times prior to our shoot because she works with my husband. But it was a great joy to actually spend some time with her. She was so fun to work with.

This is the first senior shoot I have done. It was very sentimental in remembering what it was like to feel that anticipation of graduation--what's to come, the unknown, no more curfew. What a great time in life.

Lesley, I was so happy that we could make this happen! I hope you enjoyed it!

The Boes Family

It all began last fall when Patrick and I moved back to Grand Rapids. Neither of us had landed jobs yet, and it just so happened that my sister-in-law knew someone who needed a babysitter. (Yes, at the age of 22, I'm still considered a babysitter.) Being that I do enjoy hanging out with kids, and that we were quite strapped for cash, I signed up to watch her friend's kid. Who could've guessed that it was the beginning to something quite magnificent?

Since September, I've watched Callan on a somewhat consistent basis. Currently I get to spend 3 days a week with him, and just love the time we have together. When his mom asked if I'd be interested in taking some family photos, I was more than honored! I love that both my jobs allow me to be so close to so many wonderful families! And it was fun to combine the two!

So sit back and enjoy some shots from my day with the Boes family!

We started out by the Ford museum. Who knew a dead branch could be so fun?
Benny and Elise always dress Callan in the cutest Paul Frank apparel. I adore the little skull t-shirt he was wearing. Then we headed over by the blue walking bridge/the Van Andel museum. It's just so beautiful over there!

If you know me at all, you know my love for babies! And I couldn't be more thrilled that my dear friend, Carrie, is going to have a little one of her very own! Last week we got to spend some time snapping shots of her cute little prego-self. I work with Carrie at Red Lobster, and it was so great to see her in normal maternity clothes (our uniforms aren't the cutest). She is so stinking adorable!

Adoption Fundraiser :: Success!

May 1st was the Adoption Fundraiser for Teresa and Eric Johnson, our lovely friends, cousins, and neighbors.

They're currently in the process of adopting a little one from the Congo, a place that desperately needs people like them to step forward and rescue a child. There are currently over 4 million orphans in that country alone.

The fundraiser was a huge success and one step closer to them getting their baby. I can't even imagine how excited they are! So a big thank you to everyone who came out to support them! The love filled that place!

Shakers and Drums

Being it that I watch cute, little kiddos during the week; sometimes I have to get creative with fun ways to entertain them. I recently was reading that the babies I watch are entering the time where musical instruments are a must. And rather than go out and spend $40 on things they will play with for 10 minute increments; I decided to spend $2 on some cute paper and mod podge the gazillion containers I already have!

So, here are the drums and shakers:

Step one: Always, ALWAYS, start with Mod Podge.

If you're watching hulu on your husband's brand new laptop, be sure and keep your liquids, such as your morning coffee (aka the nectar of life), on the the lower shelf. Starting containers: three formula canisters, and several jars from the spice rack we never used.Mod Podge a couple cute pieces of a paper over top...
Add some stickers to enhance the learning experience...And, voila!

Baby Chicks!

My mom is not only one of the coolest moms in the world, but yes, one of the coolest grandmas. Growing up, she always let us have whatever animal we wanted: rabbits, iguanas, dogs, cats, ducks (in an apartment no less). I can't even imagine taking on all that responsibility as a single parent, but she always did it gladly because she knew what a great experience it would be for us.

So, sure enough, she brought my nephew to "look" at the ducks and chicks at the Tractor Supply Store. And of course, looking became wanting which led to buying. They are now proud owners of 6 baby chicks!

I don't have photos of all of them because, well, they run really fast. But here's a peak at a few of them!

Brendyn wanted to show them off, and I thought it only right that he do so in his Scooby Doo pajamas. I think they really bring out the colors in the chicks.
This is one was my favorite.

Another Tuesday night festivity for us girls occasionally includes a craft or two. Recently, we worked on some center pieces for this really great fundraiser we're planning. Let me tell you about it.

You see, I have this friend who just happens to be my cousin, Teresa. We've been best friends from day 1; it's just how our parents raised us. And we've just done life together. I was her maid of honor, she was mine. We even share a living space, as it is that we rent the lower half of their duplex. It just works out so well.

So now, we've come to the next exciting part of our lives-families! And I couldn't be more happy for her and Eric to start theirs. And they've decide to expand via adoption. They are currently in the process of adopting a little one from the Congo! And I am so excited! (As are they, of course.)

And this Saturday, May 1st, we will be having a fundraiser to help them get there! It's going to be a grand event, it really is; and you should be there! But even if you cannot, feel free to follow Teresa through the process on her blog http://surveyofalife.blogspot.com/.

Anyway, as I was saying, we recently made some really terrific centerpieces for the whole ordeal, and I wanted to share a what this little gathering looked like...

Cooking :: Eggplant Parmesan

In my world, every Tuesday night is girls' night. It's a delightful event in which some of my favorite ladies and I get together and watch some shows, eat, and chat about life. We used to knit, and I fully plan on starting back up eventually, but sometimes you just need a break from certain things.

We try to rotate who brings food, but our gracious hostess, Brook, usually is the one to supply the goods. This past week, though, I wanted to contribute. So I attempted a new meal that I ended being quite please with: Eggplant Parmesan. I was very excited because this is not something we can make at home; Patrick is not a fan of this lovely purple delight. But thank goodness, my friends definitely are!

Aren't they just beautiful? Straight from Martha's Vineyard.
Just threw them on the grill after tossing them with some extra virgin olive oil and a nice pinch of sea salt. Everything looks better grilled. Add some parmesan...And combine with a salad, asparagus roasted with garlic cloves (thank you Charles), and delicious red skins. It was a heavenly feast.

It's Birthday Week!

So, I just so happen to love birthdays. And I just so happen to really love Patrick. And today just so happens to be, Patrick's birthday! It may be the best day ever!

Patrick has always made sure my birthday was special. One year he threw me a surprise ball. Everyone wore formal dresses and everything. It was magical! So, needless to say, sometimes I feel a little pressure in the birthday category. And while this year, I may not have the means to throw a ball, I tried to do some little things here and there.

This week I had a fun little entrepreneurial shoot with my dear friend Renee who makes these awesome headbands and hats. We took some photos so she can have something to show people who are interested and had such a blast! I loved all the colors she had, aren't they just beautiful?

Oh the joy of white, glossy spray paint. It has become a dear friend of mine as of late, as well as a great inspiration for a little redecorating of our living room. You need that kind of inspiration every now and again, don't you? It's one of those things that keeps you moving.

So, I've had this gold framer for quite some time. It actually started out as a mirror that I had found in my mother's basement when she moved in. I loved it! I kept it as is for awhile. But unfortunately one particular door shutting led to it falling off the hook and the glass shattered. So, I toted it all the way to Tulsa and back without any reason to hold onto it, besides the fact that I still very much loved it. It was until this past week I decided I really needed to make use of this beauty... and ta-da! Success!

Baby Emma

I am so excited to be an aunt (the favorite, no less) once again! Emma Allison O'Dell was born to my brother & sister-in-law on April 1st. I was hoping to be there for her birth, but scooted in just seconds after she was born. And from that first moment, she was absolutely one of the most precious babies I have ever met. She is just so sweet and cuddly.

Dana and Keri, I am so happy to be an Aunt to sweet little Emma. She warms my heart and I cannot wait to be a part of her life. As always, thanks for letting me taking 2 million photos of your family! It's my favorite.

Isn't she just so sweet?One of the only ones with Grayson actually looking at me... I guess that's your luck with the 3 year old brother.Now, I know this one of Aidan isn't so sentimental in how he's looking at Emma or anything like that. But, I just love his laugh and this is one of my favorites. I think this was the point where Grayson had hit Uncle Patrick with a pop-bottle on the head.

Life Update

I wish I had a fun and exciting update, but unfortunately, it's one of those real-life things that we tend to want to avoid.

For those of you who don't know, exactly one week ago Patrick and I went to the emergency room because of some complications I was having. Unfortunately, we found out that we had lost our baby. I was exactly 12 weeks along, and the doctor said it was only about a 5% chance of happening--but it did.

Throughout the week, we have been showered with kind comments, messages, texts, and emails. I apologize for the non-reply, but know that we received them all and felt the love of our friends and family more than ever.

While I'd love to tell you that our gut-reaction was to thank God that in the end, this would all be okay; that just wasn't the case. Patrick and I definitely went through a week of heartache, and hurt. The question "why" arose an infinite amount of times; and that feeling of betrayal just couldn't be shook.

I tell you all of this, only to lead up to the fact that those were normal feelings. God-given emotions. And the greatest part, was when we had processed and healed enough to fully come to God and give it all to Him--the healing was indescribable.

So we thank you so much for all of your prayers and support during this time. There's still things that need to heal, but know, that we are okay. We are alive and well, and believing for great things to come.

This is my niece Elizabeth. I love her so dearly, mostly just because she's my niece; but also, for faces like this.

The girl is so committed to her emotions (I unfortunately can relate all-too-well with this). And when she feels like having a good time--look out! I laughed so stinking hard the entire time I shot her. These are just a few "warm-up" shots we got while I was testing the lighting for the family shoot I did the other day.

That's right... sometimes we are honored to have three little babies at our house all at once! I regularly watch my cousin's little boys, Chase and Ashton, and sometimes my niece Ruby likes to join the party. We're really having fun singing and reading books right now. Baby Charlotte seems like a celebrity in my life. I've worked with her parents, Joe and Amy, over the course of the last six years at Red Lobster. And to say that this little arrival was highly anticipated is quite the understatement. She's all the buzz at the lob! And I had the great privilege of being one of the very first RL'ers to meet the tiny bundle.

Joe and Amy, I couldn't be more honored to have the opportunity to capture these moments of Charlotte. She is beyond beautiful and I can only imagine the lovely lady she will become with parents like hers. Your love for each other has always been so endearing, and I know that it will only grow greater to encompass this precious gift you've been blessed with. I'm beyond thrilled for you both!

Yup, that's right! We're starting a daycare. Well, it's a small one. Think cute, quaint home daycare vs. large center with ten-thousand babies. Either way, we're almost complete with the registration process and should be on our way soon! I'm very excited! It's funny just to think about how long God has been preparing me for this. I started talking about watching people's kids over a year ago! Then, we went to Tulsa where I had to learn a ton about licensing, rules, regulations, and everything else about kids because of my job in Children's ministry.

In other news, I'm looking at doing a few weddings this spring/summer (hopefully). Plus, I've got a whole slew of new babies to come... I just love new babies!

In the meantime, I'm just believing for the finances to come through for a camera. Not that I'd make a business out of that, but the extra income would be so nice.

So here's to a wonderful 2010.

2009 was definitely one of a kind, but we're ready to move forward. I tend to be a sucker for New Year's. I'm all about a.) starting a diet, b.) writing down a bunch of goals, and c.) let's just be honest, a big world-wide party is bound to be a good time. And look, I'm already doing great. I was up at at it at 8:30 am after staying up 'till a very late 3am. Hello world- I'm motivated! (And happen to have a husband who had to be at work at 9:30, but that's neither here nor there.)

But in memory, I'll post a little tribute to the past year. My last post was an update on our lives, but I feel like there was so much left out. This year I got to celebrate with two of my favorite friends in welcoming little ones into their lives - my friend Brookhad Gavin only 2 days after my birthday (it was so close, but, then I thought- who reeeallly wants to share their birthday with an adorable baby? I would have been overlooked in an instant!). And then my sister-in-law, Carly, just had little Ruby in October! Beyond that, we got to celebrate so many engagements, marriages, and new babies. It's such an honor to be a part of those moments for the ones you love. Even despite our temporary distance, we were able to spend so much time with our families. My family even vacationed together for the first time in almost 10 years. I also turned 22 (what a great age) and had the best birthday on the planet (big thanks to the husband for that one)! Plus, I got to ride in a plane 4 times and if you know me well, you know how much I love those airports.

Did I mention I got to do all of this whole year with my best friend? Now, who can beat that?

Well, our year has been far from ordinary, to say the least. After traveling down to the blazing heat of Oklahoma for beginning of the year; we've already ventured back! In mid-February, we were both offered jobs at a church in Tulsa, OK; Patrick as a media guru and Katy as the children's ministry/office administrator. We were very excited about the adventure and were pleasantly surprised with the change.

Then came August, when we were met with unfortunate news that Patrick's position at the church was eliminated. It came as quite a surprise and after much deliberation, we decided it best for our family to return to Grand Rapids. It was a very hard decision, as we had grown to love our church and friends in Tulsa. Although the transition was bittersweet, we're very happy to call Michigan home again. Plus, we even brought back a new member of the family, our very dapper pup, Horace H. Wimp. (We tend to just call him Horace, although the "Wimp" part ended up suiting him quite well.)

The last few months have been spent getting settled once again. Our dearest friends, Eric and Teresa Johnson, shared their apartment with us while they completely remodeled a beautiful duplex on the NE side of Grand Rapids. We moved in during the beginning of the month, and are so lucky to call them our upstair-neighbors. We're very excited to venture to the farmer's market and all the amazing shops and restaurants over here! While there's plenty of decorating and the like to be done, we're quite happy to be home. Our new address is 715 Atwood St NE Apt 1 Grand Rapids, Mi 49503.

Patrick will be starting school this spring in pursuit of his degree in graphic design. While he enjoyed the video work, he found his great love for design while we were in OK and has decided it's a good venture for him. His beard has come in quite nicely, and his dance moves have never been better. Patrick is currently employed at Celebration Cinema, where we enjoy a bountiful amount of free movies and treats!

Katy is back at Red Lobster on the weekends, and spends the weekdays watching two adorable twin boys! She's still pursuing photography whenever she gets the chance (and a camera to borrow). Next up is starting school again for some night classes--we're thinking a nursing degree is a viable goal. (Her dance moves are shaping up quite nicely, as well.)

It's been quite the year, but we wouldn't have traded it for anything. As wonderfully naive as we were, we are now more than grateful for all that we have learned over this passed year and for

how it has grown us as a couple. God's grace is a beautiful thing.

And we certainly wouldn't have made it without all the great love and support from all of you! We wish you the very merriest Christmas and a new year filled with peace!

Meet Chase! I've known this little guy from day 1--he even came to my wedding! (We just didn't know he was there yet.) I've been dying to get a few photos of him, so it finally worked out to just go hang out while he played with some toys. Man, does this kid make my job easy; he was nothing but adorable!

Brook and Aaron are a couple of our nearest and dearest! And you can only imagine how excited we were when they welcomed their new addition to the fam, the stunning baby Gavin! He is one of my favorites in life and I love that I get to be a part of his.

Brook has had this very lovely idea for a Christmas card for ages now. Pj's, Christmas decorations, all cozied up in bed...it's just like Christmas morning! So I, being one of her biggest supporters and all, decided join up with the idea and make it happen! I think it turned out just wonderfully!

So, I have to admit, the majority of my photos thus far are with my niece and nephews- but oh how I love it! These are Dana and Keri's babies. Well, there not so much babies any more- but I still like to think of them as so.

You can definitely see their personalities in these photos. Aidan will be 7 soon, and more than ever, I'm realizing he is quite the realist. He is so sweet natured, too. He's becoming so grown up. Elizabeth is almost 5 and her personality is bigger than ever. Although we're not blood-related, I know she is family. She cracks me up more than anything. And those big, beautiful eyes! We will definitely have to fend the boys away when she gets older. And then there's Grayson. Oh, Grayson. His latest obsession is Yo! Gabba Gabba! Half the shoot he was singing and dancing. He is definitely his own person.

On Friday we had the kiddo's over for some cookie making and fun! We love seeing how much they're growing up. Brendyn is a little ball of energy, Aidan is definitely becoming an observer, and Elizabeth...well...she is her own person! The best part is hearing their opinions on where how we're "made". "First God draws you on a piece of paper, then builds your house, puts the paper in the house, and then you come off the paper and you're there..." So cute!
